As the fastest-growing commercial electronics format ever, DVD is a true “multi-media” format – delivering high quality video and audio within a standardized interactive environment. It’s not surprising that Brian Brodeur has found himself a leader within the DVD industry. Brodeur’s interests have always been focused around two main pursuits: entertainment and technology.
As early as ten years old, Brodeur was performing music professionally while also learning to program his Apple II+ home computer. Brodeur studied Music Technology at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and over the years, he has participated in countless musical performances in many styles, formats, and on various instruments.
Upon leaving Berklee in 1991, Brodeur went on to manage several professional recording facilities outside Boston, producing several critically acclaimed indie-label recordings, and later produced Educational CD-ROM games at Capitol Multimedia & CUC International.
In 1997, Brodeur joined the staff of DigiRom in New York, and worked closely with music-industry veteran Harry Hirsch (Media Sound, NARAS, IAR). While at DigiRom, Brodeur worked with early DVD technology, established one of New York’s first DVD authoring suites, and worked closely with major record labels (SONY, BMG, Universal).
Building on those relationships, Brodeur continued to provide DVD and production consulting services throughout the late 90s; serving clients across the United States. In 1999, Brodeur joined the staff of USA Studios in Manhattan as Director of Multimedia, overseeing USA’s DVD and Internet operations including installation of their state-of-the-art Sonic Solutions 5.1 authoring suite. At this time, Brodeur established his successful relationship with Sonic Solutions, eventually leading to Brodeur becoming New York’s leading DVD Authoring trainer.
In 2001, Brodeur established NewYorkDVD and continued providing DVD consulting and production services to clients across the United States and Europe. Most notably, Brodeur established relationships with Hudson Music and Music Sales International, once again blending his love of music and technology and eventually developing titles involving Mike Keneally, Steve Gadd/James Taylor/Paul Simon, Neil Peart, Vinnie Colaiuta, Steve Smith, Dave Weckl, Victor Wooten, Mike Portnoy, Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Louis Bellson, Sheila E, and dozens of other notable music artists.
Over the last several years, NewYorkDVD has completed hundreds of DVD projects, including the worldwide release of Rod Stewart’s “One Night Only- Live from Royal Albert Hall”. Other recent projects have included DVD development for The Producers Guild of America, KINO International, Empire Pictures, MorganStanley, Columbia/TriStar, USA Television, Phish, ABC/Disney, Barnes & Noble, J-Records, Ciao Italia (PBS) and Frank Zappa’s “DubRoom Special” & “Classic Albums” titles.
In 2006, NewYorkDVD was awarded the DVD Association’s Excellence Award for Music DVD development of Neil Peart’s “Anatomy of a Drum Solo” educational title. The double-disc set featured over 6 hours of widescreen footage, animated menus, and multi-angle video. NewYorkDVD releases have received dozens of industry awards and magazine readers’ polls including several #1 sales ratings at Amazon and DVDUniverse.
NewYorkDVD continues to meet the challenges of new technologies and new opportunities including BluRay Disc production and Web 2.0 services. Also, NewYorkDVD has established a 5-year development and distribution agreement with Alfred Publications – a leading music educational publisher. With their creative talents, hands-on project management, expert-level programming, and breadth of experience, NewYorkDVD will continue as a powerful leader in the new media industry.
